A fruitful bilateral meeting between Dr Cham Prasidh, Senior Minister, Minister of Industry and Handicraft, Cambodia, and Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysia took place on 29th October, 2016 to discuss the mechanisms towards achieving the ISO / IEC 17024 Certification of Persons for various industries in Cambodia.
The meeting, held concurrently with the 71st Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Science and Technology and 9th Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science and Technology in Siem Reap City, Cambodia, was centred around the mutual understanding of both parties for certification body IPEC Bureau to collaborate with the Cambodia National Accreditation Council (DA).
The mechanism will also facilitate greater ISO / IEC17024 knowledge transfer and training, sharing of processes and forms, as well as to help businesses in Cambodia grow and expand their business within the larger ASEAN Economic Community.
The ISO / IEC 17024 Certification of Person certifies skilled workers, professionals, experts and personnel. Attaining the Certification of Person also swings open the doors of opportunity for greater talent mobility globally, with less stringent processes.
The meeting ended on a positive note as both parties were keen for IPEC and DA to explore the possibility of setting up the standard and certification mechanism in sectors such as education, training, promotion and all other matters related to the ISO / IEC17024 certification with the vision to contribute to the larger development on the social Innovation and people transformation ecosystem in Cambodia.
Dr Cham Prasidh has welcomed the prospect of IPEC running and managing the certification process in Cambodia with DA giving its full support. Further discussions and deliberations will be taking place soon to consolidate this collaboration that will serve as the bridge between the government, SMEs and the people for human capital transformation, while supporting the delivery of training certifications and SME business excellence.
This will eventually bring Malaysia and Cambodia a step closer towards MRA harmonisation in ASEAN, as the region rapidly progresses towards being a single certification bloc.
