Thailand’s BLPD Visit To IPEC Certification Bureau

A team from Bureau of Laboratory Personnel Development (BLPD), a division under the Department of Science Service, Ministry of Science and Technology Thailand, was in Kuala Lumpur today, last September 28, 2015 for a three-day visit. The delegation from Thailand was led by Dr. Junpen Meka-Apiruk, the Director of BLPD. The main objective of the visit was to study a potential bilateral ties between the Government of Thailand and Malaysia on the ISO/IEC 17024 Certification of Persons subject. Malaysia is a known pioneer among the ASEAN countries on this ISO niche.

The delegates were interested in understanding further on the Malaysian’s ISO/IEC 17024 journey, especially on the challenges and success stories achieved from it. The Thais were also interested in bringing these expertise home and by collaborating further with IPEC Certification Bureau to work on their objective. IPEC’s expertise in the Certification of Persons was needed in assisting them to establish a benchmark for Thailand’s human resources certification processes that focuses on the defining and examining the competence level of personnel. At the end of the day, an industry defined competency standards that is examinable and measurable must be established.

Representing Malaysian delegates was Dr. Juliana Alut Lim, CEO of IPEC Certification Bureau IPEC who became the host of the day. Dr Juliana also had a 2-hour discussion with the Thais when they were paying a visit to IPEC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. She was accompanied by IPEC’s Corporate Advisor, Dr Ng Wee Kiong and other members of the top management.

We hope the bilateral collaboration between Thailand and Malaysia on the ISO/IEC 17024 Certification of Persons shall materialised soon.
