Ms Jchanet Tan is the facilitator for this Work Group. Prof. Dr. Ng Wee Kiong from AICA Malaysia is assisting her on the Beauty Science, Dr. Morthy S. also from AICA Malaysia is assisting on the Advance Aesthetic topic, Prof. Dr. Coco Alex an industry expert from Malaysia is assisting on the Semi-Permanent Pigmentation, Mr Alan Teo an industry expert from Singapore is assisting on the Aesthetic Technology Device topic and finally Dr. Diana Mossop an industry expert from UK is assisting on the Phytobiophysics (Complementary Therapy) topic.

Each topic is being discussed thoroughly as it will involve a formal proposition for standardizations. This is a session where each ASEAN countries’ representative will share their insights, experience and input where a consensus will be made at the end of the day.

Dr. Juliana Lim recently paid a courtesy visit to Sabah State Secretary Office. She was here for a short discussion with The Honourable Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman, in her capacity as the CEO of IPEC Bureau cum the organiser for the upcoming ASEAN IPEC Retreat Convention 2015 to be held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah this November 25 – 27, 2015.

State of Sabah is one of the major partner for the retreat convention.

ASEAN IPEC Retreat Convention 2015: Press Conference

A press conference session was held at the Sabah Tourism office yesterday for the inaugural ASEAN IPEC Retreat Convention 2015. The ISO/IEC 17024 Certification of Persons focused convention, will be the first of its kind ever to be held in this region in collaboration of IPEC Bureau, Standards Malaysia and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia.

The press conference was led by YB Datuk Joniston Lumai, the Sabah Tourism’s Chairman and Dr Juliana Lim, CEO of IPEC Bureau. Both local and international press community attended the session. Sabah Tourism is one of the event partner for the retreat convention.

Towards the end of the session, Dr Juliana Lim officially handed Datuk Joniston Lumai the sponsored magazine for the event to mark the collaboration between IPEC Bureau and Sabah Tourism.

FIOGA’S World Grandmaster Networking Gala Dinner

The Federation International of Grandmasters Association (FIOGA) hosted the World Grandmaster Networking Gala Dinner on the night of 27th July 2015 at the Galaxy Banquet Hall in Kuala Lumpur. The Gala Dinner was an event by FIOGA to foster the spirit of unity amongst the international community of martial arts grandmasters.

There were multitude of guests invited for the gala dinner, such as martial arts grandmasters, associations leaders and movie stars. Among them are Datuk Fadilah Baharin, the Director General of the Department of Standards Malaysia. She was invited as a special guest to observe the potential of the martial art as a sport and as an industry as well. IPEC Certification Bureau CEO, Dr. Juliana Lim was also presence as an invited guest.

Guests were accorded the honor of being escorted by Chinese lion dance troupes and treated to various martial arts displays by the attending grandmasters. Several grandmasters were awarded FIOGA’s certification to honor these grandmasters contributions.

In view of the rapidly growing trends in the sports of martial arts, there is a demand in the industry for a systematic recognition of the grandmasters. In light of this, FIOGA has then, invited IPEC Certification Bureau to customize a scheme to develop martial arts industry’s practicing standards under the scope of Sports Sciences to cater the demand. In establishing the scheme, the ISO/IEC 17024 platform will be utilized. The progress of the scheme development is currently underway.

Thailand’s BLPD Visit To IPEC Certification Bureau

A team from Bureau of Laboratory Personnel Development (BLPD), a division under the Department of Science Service, Ministry of Science and Technology Thailand, was in Kuala Lumpur today, last September 28, 2015 for a three-day visit. The delegation from Thailand was led by Dr. Junpen Meka-Apiruk, the Director of BLPD. The main objective of the visit was to study a potential bilateral ties between the Government of Thailand and Malaysia on the ISO/IEC 17024 Certification of Persons subject. Malaysia is a known pioneer among the ASEAN countries on this ISO niche.

The delegates were interested in understanding further on the Malaysian’s ISO/IEC 17024 journey, especially on the challenges and success stories achieved from it. The Thais were also interested in bringing these expertise home and by collaborating further with IPEC Certification Bureau to work on their objective. IPEC’s expertise in the Certification of Persons was needed in assisting them to establish a benchmark for Thailand’s human resources certification processes that focuses on the defining and examining the competence level of personnel. At the end of the day, an industry defined competency standards that is examinable and measurable must be established.

Representing Malaysian delegates was Dr. Juliana Alut Lim, CEO of IPEC Certification Bureau IPEC who became the host of the day. Dr Juliana also had a 2-hour discussion with the Thais when they were paying a visit to IPEC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. She was accompanied by IPEC’s Corporate Advisor, Dr Ng Wee Kiong and other members of the top management.
